Back to the ongoing saga of installing this mongoose alarm in the Torana...

I had everything wired up on Saturday, everything tested fine. Immobiliser, siren, blinkers... the lot. It was all fine. Disconnected the battery and left it sit there. (After turning the key in the battery back-up so the siren wouldn't sound.)

So, last night I figured I'd put the dash back in and it'd all be good. Took the little wire identifiers off, then figured I'd give it one last test. Connected the battery again.

Guess what... the siren doesn't sound. It doesn't chirp, and it doesn't trigger. The alarm itself seems to be working fine. The blinkers go, it triggers when I open the door, blinkers go like mad. Dash LED blinks exactly as it should. But the siren doesn't sound.

Now, I also bought a pager unit, (from mongoose also), that is wired in to the siren trigger. That worked fine on Saturday. Last night, though, the pager started triggering as soon as I set the alarm, despite the fact that the alarm was not triggering. (Blinkers and LED are fine.)

Pulled out the multimeter. Power getting to the siren. Using my MAX/HOLD feature on the meter, I can see that I'm getting a signal to the siren.

Disconnect power to the siren and turn the backup-key, and it doesn't sound at all, and it should.

Happened to chat to QUTE last night about something unrelated, and he suggested checking the earth at the siren, and leaving the alarm powered up for a while in case the back up battery needed a charge. Tried that (running direct earth to the battery), and so far after 3 hours, I now get a small siren for half a second when I disconnect the power to the siren, but nothing more. Nothing when I switch or trigger the alarm.

I DIDN'T CHANGE ANYTHING! Frustrating...

So... I really don't expect anyone here has come across anything like this (it's weird), and I'll be talking to Mongoose about it, but does it ring any bells? Any other suggestions I haven't looked at? Is it normal for a siren battery to go flat very quickly and charge very slowly? If that's what's wrong - who knows!!!

Thanks for any suggestions...
Jason.

The battery could be faulty, and any way new batteries often need to be charge for 24 hours, although theoretically it should charge off the car battery. Maybe you could give it a booster charge overnight. At least the siren does work, so all is not lost.

Jason
Sounds like the siren itself. Had a similar problem with a black widow. Still haven't heard from them after 2 months. Is there 4 wires from the siren. If so one to live all the time. 2 to earth, one to siren signal from the alarm unit.
