Guys i need help, I've got a problem with my 308 that is driving me crazy!
Its a Hot 308 with cam, head work, holley 750 dp, holley blue electric fuel pump & reg ect ect ect.

1. Was driving it a couple of weekends ago for about an hour and everything was perfect until i went up this hill. Engine started surging, coughing, spluttering and then eventually stalled. I managed to get it to crank over again after a while only to find that i had basicallly no fuel pressure when i checked the fuel pressure gauge. It usually runs at about 5-6 psi.

2. First i thought it might of been a blocked fuel filter so i pulled that out, it was clean as. Anyways i took it out cleaned it and put it back in. Went for a drive, ok for about 30 mins until i went up this steep hill then again surging, then stalled. Again 0 fuel pressure when i checked the gauge. Let it sit for a while , fired it up drove home fine.

3. Next point of call was the relay that runs then fuel pump, replaced that with a new one.. No difference..

4. Thought must be the fuel pump either blocked or faulty. Took it out and got it tested... Apparently it was clean (no dirt or grit) and functioing perfectly. Put it back in, went for a long drive.. Fine for about 30 mins, up that same hill, same problem.. Again lost fuel pressure.

The only other thing i can think of is either the float levels in the fuel tank.. or the regululator.. But on flat roads, fuel pressure is fine and stays exactly at 5psi.

Anyone got any ideas??

im not sure where the fuel pressure reads from so this may be irrelevant but hollys have changeable jets in them is it poss that these are stuffed or blocked?
just a thought.

Just a guess,

If ur float bowl is at the front of the car and is too high, when u go up hill, it will spill into ur engine and flood ur mota.
Now ur engine has stopped, but also
Ur Float has now dropped (to let more fuel in), ur needle and seat will

Blwnhj,
I thought of that too and that would be a good indicator aswell (where is ur pressure reading taken from ?)

Some more info.. Everything is brand new.. Engine only Done 100kms. Holley Carb and Pump are out of the box.. Checked float level in carb looked ok..

Fuel pressure gauge is in the fuel line (in the engine bay) , between regulator and carby.

Brett,

Ur motas either gettin too MUCH or too LITTLE Fuel.
After it cuts out watch ur exhaust, does it blow black smoke on restart ? (If Ans yes, then its flooding and ur fuel pump is fine)

If Ans No Id presume ur regulator is stuffed.

Something really basic that is always over looked. Make sure your fuel cap is breathing! Letting air into tank and not slowly causing a vacuume in the fuel line. May be your fine driving around on the flat but when you need that bit extra fuel (up hill) t

Next time it happens get stright out and take your fuel cap off. If there,s a vacuume you'll here it stright away.
