Dr. Terry will have to solve this one - im stumped! I 'would' say 85kW red motor versus 95kW blue motor (maybe 8hp difference...)

Death and life are just as pleasant as one another... Its the transition that is painful!

Well 1 kilowatt = 746 horsepower

And as I'm not to sure on where power (in kilowatts) is measured and power (in horsepower) are measured, they're must be some conversion factor.

What are you on?? 1kW is less than 1HP, but not by 746. Otherwise the average commodore would have 130 550HP! Those are some mean numbers!

Im pretty sure its 1kW= 1.3HP (might be a few more decimal places in there, but close to the mark).

haha!! VL05 I think you got that back to front as well as forgetting the decimal point!
0.746kw = 1 Hp
Mind you I wonder sometimes with the HP figures people come out with??maybe your convertion above is thought to be true!! hehe....

Your biggest problem in this comparasin is that Holden changed how it rated the engines between the models. They went from SAE to DIN measurements. I think one measures the engine with no accessories, and the other measures with water pump, alternator, ex

Hi Guys.

This one always causes arguments because you can't directly compare published power figures from different eras, because of the different methods & standards employed. I won't go into all the differences between SAE gross, SAE net, DIN net & E
If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0

Woops! My bad! it is indeed 1hp=746 watts. At least I'm only first year (student) mechanical engineer, I'm allowed to make mistakes. :P

Believe me, 1hp = 0.7457kW. Being an Electrical Engineer with 20 years experience, this figure (well at least = 0.75kW) sticks in your head! This formula is why we have all wierd kW rating electric motors, like 2.2kW, 3.7kW, 18.5kW, 110kW etc. Divide them
