Hi guys.. those of you with VN's are probably aware of the dreaded roof lining sag. Does anyone know the best way of fixing this?? How is it done?? I want to get some background info before I go ripping it all apart.

Best way is to pull it all out, rip off the old fabric, scrub the residue from the deteriorated foam off with a wire brush.

When you have a good clean board, glue some new fabric onto it.

You can buy various fabrics, complete with a 3mm foam backing

Do you mean the fabric on the board that you can see when you are sitting in the car?? I am sure that my whole board is sagging not just the fabric that is glued to it. I may be wrong, I will have a look. but how do I fix

Usually it is the fabric sagging - due to the foam backing deteriorating.

I know what you're saying about the board, as one of my VSs is doing the same thing in the rear.

The best and easiest thing to do is head to the local wrecking yard and pay $50 for a roof lining out of a later VN. Aparently the later built cars have a better foam in them.

There isn't any better or worse foam right thru VN-VS, they all droop with age, but darker coloured cars & those parked in the sun on hot days tend to droop sooner.

The only diference in the linings was very early VNs had a trim strip across the front

Is it just me or am I imagining things ?

I'm sure Holden Have got "MAJOR" Share holdings in Perkins Past or Clag.

Ever since the Early Commodores, Holdens original adhesion has always been a major Let-down for me.

Easiest way to fix it is to buy yourself an older holden with an ok roof lining and sell the VN!! Its a common thing with VN's hey - almost everyone i know has had it done to them!

I heard smoking in the car makes the roof lining fall quicker than usual. Is this true?

Had a Magna, roof lining fell, pulled it out painted the board white, ran out of white paint then srayed it black. Very sad but never had roof lining fall again!!
