Im looking at buying a LX SLR5000 and need some tips on what to look out for. The owner said its original, with original 5 litre 4sp etc. I have not got any info from the plates yet. the Engine number starts with 11QTxxxxxx and the chassis number starts with CLX0464xxx. Has front and rear spoilers and its a 1977 model. I will get more info when i see it. He is the second owner, and says the car needs some work. Any info on identifying a SLR 5000 would be greatfull. Also what would be a fair price for this?
Thanks

Won't be original with that engine - 11QT is a Statesman engine number prefix.

Cheers,

The VIN plate should start with 8D69T, the BODY plate should read 8VD69 and the engine designation on the BODY plate should be L31.
It could still be an SLR but not a 5000 if the BODY plate reads 8VD69 but the engine designation on the BODY plate will be

My experience has been that many LX toranas have Q********* engine numbers. But as Mick has pointed out it has an 11QT Statesman engine, probably from an HQ as it has a 4 speed in the car.

AFAIK all 308 LH/LX engines were HT or HZ. I have seen plenty of factory QL or XQL engines in LXs though.

the m20 was not a 5 litre gearbox, m20 was suited to 6cyl or 253 motor, the mc6 was a 4cyl 4 speed box.

You only have to be in front at the end of the race.
