Hi bob.

The 2.8 Blue is better in some ways, better ignition system, better head flow & manifolds. But it's only a 173, & without spending a lot of time, money & effort, it's not going to out-power a 202.

If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0

No. A 202 red will kill the blue 173 for power and torque. Rebuild the red, using the rods out of the blue 173. You could use the high comp blue head too, but only if you use low comp 202 pistons. There are a few holes to drill in the block deck for this

Hi bob.

The Blue rods (also called Starfire rods) are much stronger, similar to XU1 rods. The Blue is better than the Red in the crank, rods, head & manifolds, why bother with the Red.

You say your Red is 'Low' compression, what is its prefix.

Just to clarify, Dr Terry is asking for your Engine Number Prefix.

Cheers...Dave
