when i'm driving, there is a lag between gear changes for maybe a second, where the engine free revs, and when it finally goes into gear, there is a clunk, and a the car clicks into gear and shoots forward.

my dad said it may be the solanoid (spelling?). any idea?

Hi,

Might be an idea if you ring up a Auto Transmission place and describe the symptoms that your gearbox is presenting and ask for their advice.

Might be just something simple and thereby save you some money :)
