Does anyone know if the EH ute had a heavier duty G/box or not?
the crash box in my EH wagon has crapped itself, and i got another one from a ute, but they are different, 99% sure the one from my wagon is the original from new. thinking that maybe the utes had a heavier duty box, or possibly it from a later model HD/HR.
the difference between the 2 is that the one from the ute appears to be thinner and has 2 bolts that you access from the outside of the box, and 2 bolts that you access from inside the bell housing.
the one i took from my wagon, has 3 bolts that you get to from outside and only 1 that you undo from iside the bellhousing. the footprint of the box against the bellhousing id different.
really dont want to have to swap bellhousings as that means removing extractors to get to the starter mototr, and i would probably have to pull the motor out to get to all the bolts etc.
can anyone shed any light on this for me?
daily driver off the road, on holidays and cant take the kids anywhere at the moment, s looking to get it fixed ASAP

As far as I know, EH to HK are the same in all versions of each model, the EJ one looks similar but is lighter, maybe that's what you have??

Didn't the early EH use the EJ box? I seem to recall Dr Terry saying that the EH Gearbox was strengthened when the 179 was released. Prior to this the strengthened gearbox was part of the Taxi Pack or something similar.

I had this done to my EH. The differences are all internal. You might have a ute which has had an earlier box fitted.

The box changed late in EH, and the easiest way to see the difference from the outside is the clutch slave has offset bolt flanges on the later box. It was beefed up for use with the 179. Bodystyle had nothing to do with it.
