Howdy, Has anyone here adapted a column shift to an aussie 4 spd? Was thinking of doing it so I can have a taller ratio in the back. I know the linkages will fit up to the 4 forward gears, but then maybe have a solenoid with a (protected) switch to engage reverse....? Don't have a box here to see the exact set up, so any suggestions would be great. Reason for keeping the column shift it 'cause it's a ute & I've got to carry at least two rugrats (& I love it).
Which just made me think - are the 1st gear ratio's any different in 3 & 4 spd's anyway....?

The first gear is almost identical, 3.07 and 3.05.

An M22 aussie box has a 3.74:1 1st gear, and will allow you to run a 2.78:1 diff so you end up with 4th as an "overdrive". If you can fit an aussie 4spd box to your HK-HG ute (they do fit OK using an all synchro cossmember) you can use a HQ-WB bench seat |
