Hi team,

I have done 3 long runs with the 253/strommie/trimatic/2.78/RON98+ in various weather and after many hours of blissfull 100km/h cruising it just loses it ! It stumbles, misses, has rough idle, poops itself up any hill, stalls at lights etc. Yet, after a night of rest, it normal again.

What could this be, oh learned folk:
(1) vapour lock (hot) with the fuel ?
(2) maybe it needs cold air intake ?
(3) something overheating in the trannie ?
(4) maybe the cap inside the dizzy getting too hot and going "argh!" ?
(5) sticky valves - orig heads, idles at 2200rpm at 100k ?

Engine runs between 1/2 and 3/4 on the guage and never redlines under any external temp. I think its something to do with residual heat somewhere. Maybe its telling me it wants to go home !

Ideas welcome, and no I wont buy a FORD - LOL.

Cheers John

What model and type of car is it.Is it a points dissy or a electronic ignition. Coils can do the same things you describe and a overheating/failing moduel or pick up on electronic ignition can do the same.

HQ 253..bog standard. Original points system. Feels like timing has drifted out of whack or compression has pooped itself, coughs, farts, no accel.

Cheers

I would try another coil on your car. But it would pay to check that the coil is getting 7.2 volts when it is running on the positive side, when it plays up. Because I have seen HQ wiring harness's that the resistor wire has melted in to it and on some of
