Was doing quite a bit of night driving last weekend and the lights on my HZ are great on high beam, but very average on low beam. Now the HZ has relays fitted from the factory, if I was to up the wattage of these bulbs say from 55W to a 75W low beam will that affect the loading on my wiring at all? I'm hoping it's just a simple bulb swap, the lenses appear to be very good for reflectance.
Thanks
Peter

Do it! Its well worth it. I've done it to my prem front, ie, 90/100w globes all running through relays, when I have my highbeam on its like daylight in front of the ute 400watts worth :)

Thanks Dre,
So you fitted extra relays above those fitted from the factory? Are your low beams 90w I take it?

Hi Peter.
To my knowledge HZ series Holdens do not have any factory-fitted relays in the headlight circuit.
Where are these relays mounted in your car & what do they look like.
Regards.
Dr Terry.

I'm pretty sure a HZ I wrecked had a relay mount just inside the top of the right fender. But I am also thinking these had the old circuit breaker also so the relay may have been fitted after. The circuit breaker is where you could get into trouble the c

Hi johnperth, I didn't quite type that in correctly.
What I meant was, is that I know of no relay in the LO-BEAM circuit. I think the one you mean, near the radiator is the one they add when they fit dual QH headlights & this relay is high beam

Thanks guys, yes it has a relay on the drivers side near the radiator, as you say it may be for high beam only. It has 55W low beam bulbs at the moment (which are too dull), I was just hoping to bump them up to 75W. Do you think I'll need a low beam rel

Yep, fitted 3 12V 30A relays, one for low beam, one for the center 2 highs and the third for the outer 2 highs :)

Yeah there is *another* one on HZ's with Halogen headlights, this was only on the highbeam side though...
Oh and it sits right next to the horn relay.

Thanks Dre, I might have to look into that, the lowbeam is pretty woeful, might as well have the parkers on! Would you have a wiring diagram on how you done it?? :)

Erm, no wiring diagram, I pretty much modded it there and then (electrics dont bother me).
I can draw up a little diagram for you and email it along if you like?
Basically all I did was find the 2 wires that supply 12v to the highs and 12v to
