Hi I'm a new member here I've finished building a 350 chev with alloy heads. It made 490hp with 450 ftlb on the engine dyno. Driving around the block several times and the tempreture starts to rise slowly. It will take 10 to 15 mins before it hits 210F. I've got a brand new four core tripple flow radiator with twin thermo and a shroud. I've also got a full flow thermo stat which doesn't make a difference if its in or out. Would anyone know what can be done to reduce the tempreture as I don't want to destroy a new engine. Also would pushing fans be better than pulling fans or what about using an aluminium radiator? I've also talk to a few hotrod guys who suggest bridging the manifold at the back to allow the water to flow back to the radiator instead of sitting around in the same spot. What do you guys think?
Best regards Ric

Same old story. I hear it all the time, and I experienced it lots of times. SBC's are steamers, and aren't easy to cool. The radiator should be big enough, but you'll probably need a viscous fan and shroud. I had the identical problem in a HJ ute with a 3 |

Stick with thermo fans. Fans that run off your crank run slowest when you need em most(idling, slow driving) Also I've had them through fan blades when you rev them hard, which I guess if your making HP like u are, you won't be scared to give it a rev. I

What's the 5 row like? I just bought one for my Overlander, and i'll run it with the viscous fan and shroud but i've heard conflicting reports as to their efficiency. It's a 308. It's also interesting about how you've managed to cool small blocks with th |

What type of shroud do you have and how well does it fit the radiator? I have seen Holdens with twin Camira fans like Sandman has and they work well but they have a fairly good shroud and I think that is the key to their success.

Not sure what you mean by pushing or pulling..but i suppose it depends on how much room you have. My experiece with a 350sbc in a Landcruiser was the thermos wouldn't cut it. Best option i fitted was the viscous fan from a Ford Bronco, and a close form fi

Brian I bought the shroud from Dessert Coolers which is a Square type with 2 x 12" holes and each fan pulls about 700cfm.

If your fans really are around 700 cmf each then I am wondering if they are big enough. I had a look at Aussie Desert Cooler's site and in the section on thermo fans it says most V8s need about 2000 cmf. Your two fans are giving a combined tota

Byron The 5 core is good, but beware of some of them as the tubes can sometimes be too close together and block off too much airflow. I saw this on a friend of mines car. He had a 460 BBF with a new 5 core and it always ran hot, when he changed to a 4 co

I'll try buying bigger fans and a better designed shroud and see what happens. I might even look at the Camira fans and shroud as well. Thanks.

It will be interesting to see how it goes. As I said i'll use the HZ 3 row 6cyl shroud with a VN-VSIII viscous fan (which is all on it now). I may even stick a big 14" Davies Craig fan i've got on the front of it and manually switch it for low speed work |
