700 klms ago one of Brisbanes more respected carburettor rebuilders dismantled and inspected the carby including the needle and seat no fault was found and has been performing well since. But only today Sunday the motor will now not idle smoothly ~ idling drops to 400rpm then idles very roughly and then stops and had to be started 4 times in the very short distance between the fuel bowser and road. At 1200 rpm and higher you would not know that anything was wrong. When I arrived home I was reversing into the garage and the motor stopped again and after several attempts would not start at all but left a very strong smell of unburnt fuel and had to be pushed into the garage. This is a original series two xflow 4.1 motor with Stromberg carby ~ motor only done 109,600klms. How can this be fixed?

Thanks: 1 times
jack,
how empty was the tank when you got fuel? Could you have sucked up gunk from the fuel tank? Or, is it possible you got some dodgy fuel? Are you using a fuel filter on the line? Do a basic inspection of the carby and make sure nothing is loose

Do you have a filter before the carb? If not you've more than likely picked something up and it's not preventing the needle and seat from sealing.

There was some bad fuel sold in Brisbane laterly and I had the same problem
Found some fine dirt like particles in the fuel bowl after I cleaned the carby and replaced the filter in ran normal
