In trying to source a 307 and powerglide/T350, I need a new diff. I spoke and visited a few wreckers today and they reported them as becoming very rare.
This guy is wrecking a HK premier with no box or motor but a 10 bolt v8 diff. The body is pretty much rust free and the interior is pretty schmick with the front doors having electric windows! Also got a few other bits such as v8 disc brake front etc. Also got old school centreline lookalike mags in good nick, not sure what they are called though. Interior like door cards and stuff are in very good cond as well as glass and seats. This guy bought this car purely for the 10 bolt.
The thing is he wants $2k for the diff or $2500 for the whole car...for the sake of originality and looking at cutting a 9 inch down etc, is this car worth to buy? I think I could sell unwanted parts for about 1k. This would typically be a donor car.
Thoughts?

Guards are worth good money if not rusty, particularly HK ones. HK rear doors are hard to get. HK Prem woodgrain the the same as GTS, so you should be able to sell all the dash stuff including the choke hole blank for good money, especially if it's a floo |

Thanks Beige,
Yeah that seems to be the price that they are fetching these days. I'm hoping I can resell the stuff I don't need bringing the effective price I paid for it down.
Would it be better/cheaper to grab a 9 inch and chop it? Or try and ge

Not much. Early HK are the Eaton style centre which are supposedly stronger but noisier. Originally HG I think it was had a bigger uni joint, but many HT and HK were retrofitted at service time with the bigger uni and tailshaft. In short you probably woul |

I've seen plenty of HQ 10 bolts for a couple of hundred buck but never the early ones - I've often wondered at the price difference too - maybe the monaro nuts are responsible:)? I'm personally not a fan of the 9 inch. They seem big, heavy, noisy items th

Yeah Ive though of that but for me to get a Borg cut down etc it will most likely end up costing more than if I can get this 9 inch. Fingers crossed the guy gets back to me soon!

You wont need to cut down a VL V8/turbo Borg Warner. Its slightly narrower.

Hi Guys,
I have been through this drama about 100 times...
If your gonna have a strong engine/trans then go the 9 inch diff. Simple.!! You will get nearly all your money back if you ever want to sell. Tough as nails. Never kill it.
Buy the 10 bo

One problem with your theory Luke.
They put 10 bolts behind C4 and C6 Corvettes putting out well over 300Kws, so unless you are up there with the Engineers at GM, I think your theory might fall a little short. Nothing wrong with 10 bolts, especially th

Not sure what you trying to say ozchevy..
I recommend putting a 10 bolt in the car if you want to save money. BUT NOT a original HK 10 bolt..
10 Bolt diffs do a good job... for a while.. But if you smash a original HK diff then thats a lot of money

I have never busted a 10 bolt in my life, i change oil as soon as i get them, how many don't???
i think they are ok up to 400 HP.
A good HK subframe in WA would pull $500 easy. - add that into the wrecking equation of HK prem.
