Hey Everyone,
I have recently purchased an EF series 2 falcon with 205 thousand k's on the clock. driving normally it drives fine and the gear changes are smooth. but sometimes when driving more aggressivly from a standing start the revs increase a bit then it bangs into gear. ive noticed this happens too when you get the transmission to kick down from 4th to 3rd. its like it hangs in neutral for a sec then bangs into gear. if you accelerate hardish like 60-70% it doesnt do this.
any ideas on how i can diagnose what the problem is ?
Cheers, Ryan

First things first, get your auto serviced. If the oil looks dark and smells burnt, make sure they flush out the system as well. You might just have 205,000 kay-old oil in there, which can certainly cause the problems you outline. Auto oil will not last |

The service itself isn't too bad. messy, but not too bad. (Do you know Ford saved $2 a car when they removed the auto drain plug from the pan? Bastards...) plus the filter is easy to remove, just remember which way the retaining wire goes, and makes sure |

EF2's don't even have a transmission dipstick IIRC. You could just be low on trans oil but how would you know?
Come to think of it how do you get new oil back in to the transmission after you have re fitted the sump?

I thought EF's did but EL's didn't... Oh well. There's a 15 or 16mm check plug on the drivers side of the auto. I think the idea is to get the trans up to normal temperature, then get under the car and pull out the plug and the level should be up to t |

I refer to my original statement...
How much, per car, do you think ford saved by not putting in a dipstick and tube?
Assholes! And yet I still own fords... I'm a sucker for punishment.
If you talk to an auto guy, he'll tell you they keep 2 ford |
