Could anyone identify this engine number? i.e. whether it is 253 or 308? and if original to a HZ manual?

It's a police number - from Qld.

So unfortunately it's difficult to tell what it is without inspecting the block.

There will be either a 253 or 308 cast in to the side of the engine block. That should solve the first question.

the date code on the top front of the block will help determine if ti is the correct build date for a HZ.

It will be a 3 or 4 digit cod
