I bought this HR premier sedan about 10 years ago as a replacement for my HR wagon which was falling to pieces. It came with disc brakes, powerglide auto (needed an auto as the wife only has an auto licence) and 186. I wish I had some original photos of it as it was nothing short of a P.O.S. The paint was pealing all over the place, the vinyl roof was cracked and falling off in slabs, the roof had bad surface rust wherever the vinyl had pulled away. The motor was shagged, the brakes were leaking, the seats were all torn, the interior was torn etc etc frankly it looked like it had just been pulled out of the scrub.

My first move with it was to send it to get a new motor and check over by a mechanic (at the time I had more money than time), after a series of problems with the mechanic (like a brake line breaking and almost running me into 2 lines of cars, "oh yeah we saw that line wasn't looking too good" he said...) the car has never been touched by a mechanic again and I've done everything myself.

Finally when I decided to get rid of the wagon I got stuck into the premier, first to go was the vinyl roof, the roof was then cleaned up and painted with some cheap white paint. The outside of the car was tidied up and the brown was over painted with some cheap blue paint. The cheap blue paint pealed within months and so it was then painted again with some better paint, which has now deteriorated also so a new paint job is on the cards.

Next the car over time got a few mods:
- Electronic ignition
- Air horns
- Central locking
- Car alarm
- Custom center console
- Custom dash
- Power windows
- Stereo w/ 10" subs
- 14" mags
- Extractors
- Brakes completely overhauled
- Weber carb
- Cable accelerator
- Remote mirror
- Retractable front belts
- LED dash lights
- Various gauges
- Electric water pump and controller
- 16" and 2x12" thermatic fans
- Halogen headlights
- Earth lead kit
- Hi torque starter motor
- 85A alternator
- Sports steering wheel
- Premier indicators installed
- New grill badge
- New tail light lenses

With that done in the next few months (currently underway) the car is getting:
- New front and rear windscreen rubbers
- New hoodlining
- Dash and parcel shelf covered
- New clarion mp3 stereo
- Another 2 (these are 6"x9") speakers
- New amplifier
- Center console finally altered and covered
- in-car DVD
- Wiring tidied up
- Sun visors covered
- Triple retractable belts in ther rear
- Floor rust proofed
- Door trims done

Further down the track the car will be getting:
- A new paint job (critical)
- Some basic panel beating (critical)
- Replace suspension
- Fuel injection

As a quick update as to how it is going I've taken the seats out, windscreens out, console out, suspended the wiring out of the way (for now), rust proofed the floor and started covering it with chassis black and sound deadener.

Hey mate when you say "rust proofing" what do you use and how do you apply it?

Okay cool I'm using the Septone products to. Yeah my concern is everywhere it says apply a rust preventative and then spray the area. Does the paint stick? In my mind if you sprayed a panel with fish oil and then went straight over with paint, wouldn't it

As an example of the difference between Chassis Black and Brushcote Body Deadener this image shows my Chassis Black on the wheel arches and the floor covered with Body Deadener.

Ordered some carpet a few days ago, not going for proper car carpet as I am going to carpet the boot and want the two to be the same. In the mean-time I finished my covering of the console (outside anyway) and will now start on the roof lining and getting

mate, that is a mean looking console!
can you tell me (down the track) whether all the rust proof and converting products work?
and also what is the purpose of chassis black? Is is just paint, or does it serve a purpose?

Reminds me to update the thread. Almost finished in the cabin now and so will move to finishing in the boot hopefully in the next week, spewing I didn't go the extra cost of buying some blue felt for the console, the big bugger looks like a big red nose i

Finally finished the boot carpetting today (the visible stuff anyway) the image below shows what it went from and how it looks now. I added lock up storage on the left, a false floor (using a wagon spare wheel door) over the spare wheel in the middle and
