Hi guys,

Hope I can find some people that have a 186 attached to a Toyota 4 speed Celica Box (W40 I think) that have played around with the clutch... :)

Looking to fit a heavier duty clutch. From what I can see, the 'heavy duty' includes the clutch plates and pressure plate? Can the pressure plate (Holden) be 'standard' and the clutch plates (Toyota) 'heavy duty', or are there variants for both?

Needless to say, I am learning about clutches piece by piece as I go so feel free to correct me wherever required!

Any thoughts appreciated!

Cheers, HarryO

I had a setup like this behind a blue 6 in a VH.

I actually had the 5 speed, but when i blew 2nd gear, I put a W40 4-speed in it, as a stop gap replacement.

As far as the clutch, you retain the standard Holden flywheel & pressure plate. The driven

Commodorenut. The plate I just bought for the HR celica 5spd up we have has a part no of TYD 8230 or CD8593 with the measurements of 220x29x21.But it will not have as much plate friction area as the tonner pressure plate.Do you think that would be the dyn

The clutchplate to use for the Celica onto Red 6 is the one for a 1.8 litre diesel Hi-ace van. It is exactly the same outside diameter as a Holden Red 6 and has the same splines as a cast iron Celica box.

When I first did this conversion into an LJ, I

Sorry, should have specified....Standard one...the bloody clutch was heavy enough in the LJ without going to a tonner pressureplate...

Yep real heavy with the tonner clutch in it in the LJ and what a feeling when the clutch rod snaps while sitting at lights in gear and trys to launch you in to the car in front. We have the luxury of hydraulic clutch in the HR much lighter.
Thanks again

When I first put the Celica box in (using a Seaton's Engineering bellhousing and a V8 Holden clutch fork) the motor would move forward on its mounts about an inch when I pushed the clutch in!

Designed and made 3 clutch systems in about 9 months (based

I don't know the exact diameter off the top of my head, but the blue 6 runs the same diameter clutch & pressure plate as a red 253.

That's why the "baby" toyota clutch wouldn't work with it, as the friction area was smaller in diameter.

I never su

Commodorenut. The clutch sizes I know are
The grey clutch OD 8 id 5.19 .132/.138 thick

Heavy duty 6cyl is OD 8.62 id 5.1/4 .So the H/D has the same o
