I am currently fixing up a wb ute and wish to have the holes where the tarp retaining clips were along the side panel welded . The panel guy said this is risky as the panel can warp. Is there a good/better way to fill these holes. Any ideas appreciated.

I helped a mate do his not that long ago with my MIG.

Basically we did 1 hole at the end, then one in the middle, then one at the other end, then back to the middle etc - jumping all around so the heat was spread.

We also quenched each one with a we

first up id say find a another panel guy if he cant tell you how to fill up the holes. I did the same thing and removed the side moldings which also left holes. i used old common silver solding. i also used silver solding on my door edges and file finshed

get yourself a piece of brass about 1cm thick and have it held on the other side of the hole ,this will help with not blowing the hole bigger with welder as the weld wont stick to the brass , we do this at work repairing panels .75 thick with a mig , when

Or use a piece of copper behind the hole. A copper face hammer head works well. You can buy replacement heads for them seperate from industrial supplies. The large size of the copper block draws heat out.
