hi all,hoping sombody may be able to help i have a 351 xe esp it is straight gas reserch(no petrol) i have had the motor out of car for 3 years cause i blew up the gearbox.in that time i have had the entire engine bay guttered and re-sprayed and the car re-wired and battery in boot the car has been put back together by the mechanic i picked car up and drove it home from there, it ran hot and pinged i left the car for a few days then tried to start it...it will turn over i prime the gas to start it and it will back fire through the exhaust and not run, i have had the gas converter serviced so it is getting gas,the dissy is hard to move cant move it by hand as i have been told it might be timing,ive allso been told it may be a bent pushrod,also been told it may be the rings need replacing but i thought it should still start...i cant work out why it drove home ok but now it wont start and backfires and stops it is getting gas ok,it has heaps of spark cause i have checked the spark in the leads and the plugs are brand new????????so if any1 can help it would be much appreciated

If it was pinging, sounds like initially there was a timing issue, but also could be a result from running hot. If the cooling system isn't right, it can effect the gas convertor as it needs the heat from the system to stop the diaphram in the convertor |
