On my hz ute the fuel gauge reads back the front ie shows empty when I fill it up. I have just completly gutted the ute and replaced the interior with wb statesman along with the dash and rewired to suit, however after all my efforts everything works including the electric windows but the fuel gauge stayed the same. I have not replaced the wiring from the rear of the ute, I have just cut and shut the wb loom to suit.
PS if anyone is about to do the same make sure when you cut the loom, cut it after what used to be the centre pillar on the statesman. From memory the brake lights have a brown wire and if you cut before the pillar there just happens to be 6 brown wires and only 1 is the brake light. Simple fix multi meter to fuse panel and check ohms resistance on all brown wires until you get a reading.

You have an early HQ sender in your fuel tank. Replace it with a late HQ to WB sender and everything will be well.

Hi Blade,

It depends on why your gauge doesn't work and whether you have an early or late sender in your car.

I know Dr Terry posted the resistance values for the early cars a few days ago if your gauge works backwards, that'll be your problem.

I think the change over was Jan 73. Maybe Dr Terry can confirm the date...
