Hello !

I have a 6 cyl auto XC sedan I am putting a 351 + singlerail gearbox into. I have the engine, engine plates, gearbox, gearbox crossmember, tailshaft and hydraulic clutch setup and pedal box all from another XC manual so I'm assuming I won't have too many problems there.

The question I have is about the front springs. I originally thought about fitting some moderately lowered King springs (from comments people had made here about them) however another guy I spoke to said a lot of Ford guys keep the 6 cylinder springs in them? Is this true.

What would you guys recommend in the suspension department (front/rear springs, shocks, sway bars maybe?) for a car that has a nice stance, not too low to be a cop magnet and to increase the handling to a reasonable degree without spending an absolute fortune as I am on a pretty strict budget.

Thanks in advance!

Put your motor in first and see how she sits. The 6 cylinder springs will sit lower than the v8 ones once the v8 is in purely because of the weight of the motor. If she doesnt sit right, you can always change them later.

A lot of guys retain the 6 cyl springs as they are not as strong as the V8 ones and will tend to sag with the weight of the V8. They keeep them as it gives them the lowered look on the cheap.

It is NOT RECOMMENDED!!!

Buy yourself some lowered King

For what it is worth I have just put a 302C + C4 into a 6 cylinder XC and used the lowered King springs mentioned above + 2" lowering blocks at the rear - car sits very nicely and handles well. The springs weren't that expensive.
