Hi guys,
I acquired an LJ Torana S 138 manual sometime ago and have only recently started her up. It came from an deceased estate and had been sitting idle for a time.
The elderly owner bought it brand new [1 owner], but I cannot confirm it's previous mechanical history.
The condition of all the heater and radiator hoses, is good and they might have been replaced not so long ago.
Upon further investigation, there appears to be something just not right with the heater hose set up ?
On what appears to be the original cast iron thermostat housing, there are two outlets for hoses, top hose goes to the top heater box connection and the bottom thermostat housing outlet hose, connects to the inlet manifold closest to radiator.
The rear inlet manifold outlet nearest firewall connects to the bottom of heater box connection.
For all appearances the configuration seems to look okay, but I found another problem.
The bottom outlet on the cast iron thermostat housing of where the hose connects to the inlet manifold [near radiator], doesn't allow any water to flow thru.
I thought that it might have been blocked, but discovered it has never been drilled out.
Shouldn't this have been drilled out to allow water to freely flow thru the inlet manifold jacket and also for the heater box to work ?
Kind regards George

Hi George.
The water hose layout as you described is correct for an LJ 6. The lower thermostat housing isn't 'drilled out' in manufacture, it is cast that way. It's more than likely just blocked with rust and/or debris. Remove the housing from the head |
If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0 |

Hi Dr Terry,
Thanks buddy, as I removed it off the block and it was definitely blocked.
Kind regards George
