Hi there peoples,
I have just jumped over to fast lane first time on here.

I was wondering has anyone done a power steering conversion on there hr disc front end. I know v6 conversions to an exchange basis but there a bit far away for me.

Main thing is every one says you use a modified vk rack but i was thinking there may be a shorter rack out there already available.

Has anyone done this out there? or had experience with what im up to?
tks

I didn't know anyone did a power steering kit for a HR front end?
I thought they only did rack and pinion steering.
I got a Rods Racks rear mount rack kit for the EH Ute, HR f/e.
Peter Smol. has a Rods Racks kit on an EH sedan,

We looked at this extensivley for the EH Limo, and there were no power racks that we could find that were short enough and work with what we wanted. The shortened racks that come from various places are not power racks, they can't shorten them.

Hi stopgo.

Any rack can be made to fit. But it has to work also. If you want minimal bump steer and a reasonable turning circle, the rack has to be somewhere near the correct length, (from inner joint to inner joint) and mounted precisely in the right

A few possibilities that can be explored are Volvo or Subaru racks (both front mounted) or a PS rack out of some FWD econobox such as a Corolla, Laser, Lancer etc (all rear mounted).

any of these might be close enough to the right width however bein

Hi Jim.

As strange as though it may seem, the majority of Jap FWD racks (Laser, Corolla, Lancer etc) are nearly as long in the main rack shaft as a Commodore. Probably the shortest rack around is the old TE/TF Cortina unit and even that one's too long.

I believe you Dr Terry. In looking for a suitable power steering rack for my Capri I have found that a VN Commodore rack is exactly the same width as the Capri rack once you have removed the outer arms (they even have the same thread for the rack ends but

If you really want to do it, and can be bothered why don't you modify the front-end to fit the rack, as the power rack can't be modified to fit the front-end.
Move the lower control arm pivots to suit the rack geometry and shorten the arm to keep the cor

do you really need the power steering, these cars are not that heavy to steer unless you run 6 or 7 inch rims up front.
