Im looking at ways to "hotup" my 186S but need to be a little careful as on a budget and the gearing in my ute probably wont take anything to hot. Im running an M21, diff ratio is unknown its a longbolt so 3.08 or maybe even a 2.78? Im running 75 series tyres as well, so is alittle slow of the mark, pulls about 2250rpm at 100 klm.Ive picked up a 202 with a YT head and supossedly a "cam" in it aswell so will check this all out for parts. I will be keeping the twin carbs for now [suggestions?]should I run extractors or the old cast iron headers? will a 2 1/4'' system be to big [may run a blower later].So what cam ? and how far can I go with the head ? anything else I can do ?? I need torque with some top end as well.. I will be keeping the bottom end as it is motor aint commin' out. Also what should I be careful of doing ? Cheers!

If it was me, I would just put the 202 in for now. Extra cubes, extra torque, a YT head, and a supposed 'cam'. Add electronic ignition and extractors along with the twin carbs.
You have so many conflicting things happening, budget, blower, how far with |

Thanks for the input Peter, I would agree with your first bit just put the 202 in it, if it was that simple. Im not taking the motor out as my 186S is in far better condition and Im not going through the pits just for that.I am aware of the cam and the bl

I changed the cam in my car with engine in. The balancer was easy to get off, the cam was easy to get out, the cam gear on the crank was only easy to get off because I had a choice of about 20 very good quality German made pullers from work, worth about $ |

It is never a good idea to re-use a cam, but if you do use new or recoed lifters. Never re-use lifters unless they are going back into the same block in the same spot on the same cam. I would leave the cast headers, and run the twin pipes back a little t |

The gearbox was recoed when I first got the car years ago by a friend with a small mechanical business [many years working on old Holdens] he showed me a groove in a shaft but Im a bit confused as I can only remember seeing one groove [I think?? so long a

90mph? Why would you want to have pickup speed at that kind of speed? If that is the way you want to drive?
I run a Terra Charger. $3500 for the charger alone, so factor that again to setup, and probably overbudget. |

In the latest issue of street machine, there is a UC torana with an sc - 14 blown 186 that runs thirteens. Considering they're $350 each, a twin blow one would kick arse!!! they run to about 10 psi of boost each, although at that point, they lose economy

done some reasearch, and a CRS pulley kit can enable the sc-14 to be wound up to ove 10p.s.i of boost. Looks like a good prospect. Peter, how much boost are you running on your terra charger? and how much power does it make? Cheers Alex

I have a 186s that i went bezerk on. It has starfire conrods, and hyperuetectic pistons, only 30 thou over so it doesn't get hot in traffic. 192's are cookers. It has a solid 140 wade cam with straight cut gears. It has a bathurst 9000 yella terra head
