I put a posting on about 1 month ago about a HQ Statesman DeVille with a factory 350 Chevy I had inherited from my grandfather.

I've been told by my father that the motor is actually a Canadian 350 Chevy. Can anyone tell me anything about this, as I have never heard of Chevy motors coming from Canada.

My father also believes there were only 12 of these motors brought into Australia in the Statesman.

Canadian 350's in HQ's came from the McKinnon plant, I believe they were all from the same plant and can be identified with 'K' casting.

I have seen 350 HQ eng numbers finish the date code with 'H'........does anyone know what the suffix stands for? Is it as simple as Holden? or does it designate the transmission fitted to the engine as in US date codes?

The H code starts back in 1968 with the HK, As they were fitting 327s to Chevs and Pontiacs here they put H5 for Holden after the engine number.

The 5 is removed when the second type 327 comes on line, as the first type was still fitted tot he Chevs an

Yes my mistake - teach me to try and think at 6am!
It actually means the 8th of July, probably 1968, but could possibly be 1967 - depends upon how early the block is in HK.
