jack the car under the chassis to let the suspension hang remove split pins and backoff the lower ball joint nut.
holding a large hammer against the taper smack the other side opposite with another hammer.

Remove the control arm and press the ball joint out and press the knew one in. It is a lot less hassel and work then trying to hammer one back in, unless you have a short handle 14lb hammer and a good solid short swing. For the sake of only a couple of mo
