I have a gas system in an old car that I need to remove but I would like to ask some advice...

The gas tank has two pipes running into it, one on the left with a valve and what looks to be some sort of solenoid thing..which I assume goes up to the engine bay ? I have closed off this valve but what worries me is the other pipe. It runs into the tank and has a gauge next to it but no visible valve or anything..is this normal ? If I disconnect this pipe will gas escape ? I'm assuming this is the filler pipe and it doesn't seem to have any way of shutting it off.....unless it's a one-way valve ? I need to get the gas system removed tomorrow as it's the only time I have available...

Your advice is gratefully appreciated. !!!!!
