Hi all, I know that this has been covered previously but i am thinking about fitting a big block (454) in a HZ.I would like to run on pump fuel not gas and would like to retain factory air cond. has anyone out there done this in NSW recently? have spoken to different engineers and get different answers. where do I get an ADR27A compliant 454 from? does anybody have any photos?.
thanks

It isn't easy to get a big block registered in an ADR27A Holden. You can do it by using a complete engine with pollution equipment out of a USA vehicle that complys with equivalent or better pollution requirements. Or get a throttle body injected 454 out

cheers Byron, yes you are right it is a statesman. as regards to handling (or lack of)is the extra weight your major concern. is it correct that alloy heads keep the big block weight same as or very close to small block weight
thanks

alloy heads will help a bit, but most of the weight is in the block/bottom end. you can easily strengthen the chassis and stiffen suspension but unless done correctly you may end up with a cracked chassis, or a car that dangerously understeers. holden has

Agree. The only variant i'd suggest a big block in is an Overlander as they don't have chassis cracking problems as front end weight is on leaf springs. If you want big cubes just build yourself a 3.75" stroke 302/327/350 or a 400 and you'll get more torq
