Just after some expert opinions from you guys.

Due to the price of fuel at the moment I am looking at putting gas on my XF ute (250 XFlow, C4 Borg Warner Auto). I have priced both a standard duel fuel gas conversion (about $2500) and a Gas Research Straight Gas System (about $3400 fully fitted with all petrol components removed from car) and was just wondering if it really is worth spending the extra money on the Gas Research system?

Apart from the straight gas running better than duel fuel because the mixture can be set properly, is there any more reasons to go for the Gas Research system? Will I get extra power/performance, etc?

Also, does the $3400 I had quoted for the Gas Research system seem about the correct price to pay or does anybody know of anywhere I can get a system fitted for cheaper?

Well the main advantage of dual fuel is that if you run out of LPG you don't have to be towed to the next service station as you would with straight gas.

One of the good things about a Gas research system is that you can pick up an inlet manifold off

If you are not going to drive in areas where you will have difficulty buying gas then straight gas will enable you to get the best out of gas providing the engine is tuned to suit it.

This can create problems with many gas conversions becaus

Thanks BrianH and Jim5.0, your advice is brilliant. I knew a Gas Research system was mainly desinged for high performance engines and not daily drivers but when I rang up Gas Research and spoke to them they told me otherwise so I just wanted a second opin

Sorry but I don't know of any good conversion companies. I have been doing my own for 19 years after getting a licence at TAFE although I left the trade a couple of years prior to that.

It might not be a bad idea to ask a few taxi drivers.

What Brian said is true. My brother had an XY wagon which he fitted with a 4.1 alloy head Cross flow engine out of an XE.

He had it rebuilt with higher compression & a cam suited to gas and the aforementioned EFI manifold amongst other things.
