Hey guys! I just ran into a problem while getting my 186 ready for a rebuild. While screwing in bolts in the flywheel end of the motor to mount the motor on the engine stand, i noticed that two were very loose. I gave one of them a tug, and hey presto, it pulled right out! tried the other; same again! I noticed that i didn't strip anything, and i couldn't see any marks from where the hole may have been drilled and tapped further from factory. I tried a few other sized bolts, to no avail, but then i tried a 10mm metric bolt, and it was a perfect fit. Does anyone know why this may have been? both suspect holes are on the passenger side of the block. has someone strippped the inner thread and tapped it out, or is this a sloppy factory mistake? should i bore out the other two holes to suit, or just leave them as two and two?
any help would be great.

Cheers
Alex

Howdy,
Dunno if it helps but I found a similar thing when swapping a 308 to a 186 on the engine stand - they use different bolts & the 308 ones nearly fitted - they did just what you described. I think a 10mm metric is very similar to a certain size UNC
