Hello everyone, could someone pleased give me a description of these two adrs. I know 27a is more stringent but what are the main differences. Thanks

Athough there is other stuff, 27 is basically just a canister. Whereas 27A has spark advance mods depending upon engine water and block temperatures and what gear you are. Plus some cars have EGR. Also idle screws are sealed. There is a bit of other stuff

Hi Guys.

The canister rule is difficult to work out. ADR27 engines were introduced by Holden in August/September 1973, but AFAIK the rule itself wasn't law until early 1974. I don't think canisters were part of ADR27 because they weren't fitted until J

That's all the "other" stuff I was talking about, that i've honestly never tried to fathom to any great depths. I've always been perplexed by the canister issue, and Terry has helped to clear some of that too.

Thanks Byron and Doc. thats what I was after, my 05/76 Hj has Adr27 on the build plate. I guess if the PCV is functional, carbon canister fitted and CO emissions are within spec I could fit any motor I like and have a chance of getting it legal.

Crazy isn't it? Nothing like changing terminology as you go, especially for the poor spare parts salesmen of the day.
Terry, I seem to recall that in NSW at some stage there was a mandatory requirement for a canister over and above what other states were

I have a late 74 HQ. As Dr T says. mine is plated ADR27. Which is 'closed PCV' system (the rocker cover was vented to the air cleaner instead of being open to the atmosphere) and the heated air intake where a tube fed hot air from the exhaust manifold are

What makes all this a lot worse is that in about 1981..I did the Emission tests on DOHC toyota motor. I got it thru with flying colours AFTER i removed most of the ADR crap.

I/we found that what cleaned up emissions was air injection INTO the exhaust m

I have a 10/74 HJ, plated ADR27 and it does not have the canister. It is the same as the late HQs. Same as trubluhq.

I just remembered what I was talking about. Anyone with a 1974 HQ ute/van/tonner will probably have ADR27 on the ADR plate, but is dissapeared off HJ commercials. In NSW you still had to have a canister on these, but there was no ADR27 on the ADR plate, s

The air pump systems are the best work around I have ever seen.The engine failed the emmisions tests so they pumped clean air in to the exaust manifold to dilute the emissions coming out of the tail pipe or so I was told.I had never thought that it may ac
