hi. can anyone recommmend a decent 240v mig welder to buy? anything under $1000 but hopefully don't want to spend that much. or anyone got one to sell second hand? what should i look for in a welder? just to do mini tubs and a few bits and pieces etc. thanks.

a gasless one will do
about $500 from bunnings......or cash converters 120 amp will do
i have a transmig 135 amp gas and gasless works well

Pffft forget a gasless setup unless you are making garden gates. Sorry, but they are about 10% of a decent job.

Peter's right ( of course ).

You really do get what you pay for with MIG welders.
A GOOD MIG welder will have a copper transformer. Aluminium is only used to cut costs. A good MIG will gave a removable Euro Gun connector. A cheapie will have a non rem

Oh, and get an automatic darkening welding mask.
These are the best thing since sliced bread.
And in this case, a cheap one will do ( in my experience anyway).

Bought an ESAB for $1200 dollars which is expensive for a backyarder like me. Also needed a regulator and cylinder etc. Its a nice welding machine but many other have got fine results with smaller machines working with sheetmetal.
