I picked up this genuine 77 HX Sandman van on the weekend, Absinth Yellow with Slate black vinyl trim. Currently running a 253 auto but was originally a 253 with M20.

On a Belmont van this is a definate Sandman tell tale.

Rust free cowl and around windscreen channel.

Original front sheet metal but has a HX or HZ Statesman grill fitted. Doesn't appear to have ever been accident damaged with all front panels nice and straight and rust free.

Another Sandman tell tale is the full length head lining. GTS dash has been replaced with a standard HX dash but seats (need some new back panels) and console are original. Unfortunately someone has hacked out the sides for windows which have been removed and sheet metal screwed over the holes, this will be the hardest repair to do on this van. In the back is a mint cond. rust and dent free bonnet to replace the original one that has a hole cut in it for that ugly bonnet scoop. Also a spare LH door.

Those windows are going to be a challenge to repair, also need another set of rear inner panels as all four have had holes cut in them for speakers.

Pretty cool, I now have a HX Monaro 308 M21 and a HX Sandman Van 253 M20 both in Absinth Yellow with Slate Black trim. The Monaro has cloth inserts though.

What's the trim code, seating capacity and GVW?
You'll need to find another van to cut the side panels and strengtehning bars out of.

Hi Byron, I assume you are collecting this data for research on Sandmans so here is a pic of my data plates. I removed them from the car and am storing them in my study with the Monaro ones so they don't get stolen.

Rare Spares also still have HX Grilles new. Your Grille is a HZ SL/E. And the van is definitely a Sandman - the 18V trim code gives it away.

Oops - I missed your Slate Black statement in your original post. Distracted by pretty pictures.....
Try ringing Wolfy's rare spares in Newcastle. They had a new hx grille a month or so ago.
