hq seats difference between early and late

whats the easiest way to spot the difference between early hq abnd late hq bucket seat, given both haVE HEAD RESTS AND BOTH HAVE METAL CHROME RECLINE MECHANISMS

1971 HQ buckets didn't have head rests until early 72 when the new ADR came into affect, they both have chrome mechanisms, but the mechanisms some time in late 73 were changed to plastic covered ones with the large recliner knob & some late HQ coupes (74 Edited by user Monday, 2 July 2007 8:39:50 AM(UTC)

71 had optional head rests so the seat has provision for them. Yes in 72 they became standard.

Most HQ GTS sedans I have seen have the plastic handwheel recliner mechanism, that would mean they phased those style seats in from early 73......does anyone know what the HQSS's had? Plastic or chrome?

Hi Guys.
To my knowledge the plastic recliner mechanism was introduced at the same time as the early '73 upgrade (also when the GTS 4-door was introduced). The chassis prefix was CHQ, the trim numbers were from 30 & up, & metric speedos were being intr |

Hi, So if I have seats with headrests and metal reclinner handles can I categorically assume they are 72 early 73 seats?????????

well as warren has inform us the 71 seats also had the headrests as an option so basically you could have a 71 to 73 HQ with head rests & metal recliners.

The texture of the vinyl changed too, I think with the '73's.

THE BOTTOM MOUNTING BRACKETS ON LATER HOLDENS WERE HIGHER SO ANY ONE SHORTER THAN 5.6 COULD JUST SEE OVER THE DASH CHEERS
