Was thanked: 5 time(s) in 5 post(s)
Guys,
I have aquired a 73 HQ ute running a 173/Trimatic setup at the moment. It has a premier front end with a two piece grill (statesman I think) and power steering has been added. The ute has had all major chassis work done with complete rebuilt disc front etc etc. I will be restoring the body/interior and respray over the next few months and was looking at replacing the ol 173 with either a 253 or 308 and possible 5 speed. My confusion starts as Im not sure what pollution requirements are required to be met for various engine swaps here in WA. Is it still the year of manufacture of the engine that determines what has to go with it and if this is the case then what engine prefixes should I be looking for so as to be pre pollution. On the other hand, If I was to go the whole hog and purchase one of the many crate engines that are available (350 chev) then what sort of can of worms would I be getting into.
If someone can shed some light or point me in the right direction so that I dont make any serious mistakes then I would be gratefull.
Thanks in advance.

Trev

As the HQ's were built before ADR27A you have a lot more flexibility with engine changes.

However if you fit an engine from a later vehicle (ie Commodore) then you also have to retain all the pollution gear that was originally fitted to that engine eve
