I have heard that there is a business that restores AM car radios.? And can alter them to FM as well.Is anyone aware of such a business??

I've heard of them but I don't know of any companies by name. I think www.fomoco.com.au sell XA-XB Ford AM radios modified to FM so maybe they can help.
