A BIG ARGUMENT STARTED IN THE SHED THE OVER NIGHT ABOUT WHO IS RIGHT & WHO IS WRONG BOTH MY MATES HAVE HK MONARO"S ONE IS 307 4 SPD THE OVER 327 4 SPEED NOW ONE IS PAINTED THE OVER IS RAW WHICH ONE IS CORRECT MUST SETTLE THIS ARGUMENT ONCE & FOR ALL OR WHO KNOW WERE IT MAY LEAD

They come from the factory painted chevy orange. same as the trans and the engine!!

My 327 is original and the bell housing is painted as are bolts and the engine even has red overspray on the exhaust bolt retainers so the manifolds also were on the engine when painted. There you go, end of argument

The modern motor HK Premier 307 4 speed was photographed during production and the entire engine and gearbox are painted, including exhaust manifolds as stated.
Cannot remember the month/issue that the photos are in but they are out there.

A lot can happen in 40 years. Just because a car is 'unrestored' does not mean that it has had some work done on it in the last 40 years. Could have went in for a service early in it's life and they detected a cracked bellhousing or something like that.
