Hi. Just in the last 2 years, since the price of scrap has gone up (I get $180 per large car delivered to metal recyclers)
It really makes it hard to justify pulling motors / boxes / diffs out. Even good chassis are thrown, where are you going to keep it, whats it worth, $100?, let it go, its worth an extra $50 right now to scrap, no work.
Every scrappy are on the hunt for dead cars, they dont care or realise that, for example, that HT subframe is invaluable to you and I, its all scrap value to them. NEXT!
I commonly see commodores VN- VS with most panels, sometimes mags, motor box and always diff, stacked 3 high, off to the recyclers.
panels are getting harder to get also for anything pre 84 now.
Just last week, i watched a LX sedan get loaded (L20, M20) nothing wrong with it, just in pieces. i was 2 min too late.
I was speaking to another scrappy, he reckons, another 2-3 years, and most scrap will have been picked up around the city and rural areas. getting body sections / chassis will become alot harder i think.

The amount of cars going to scrap is amazing. The scrappy we use sends on average 200 cars to the crushers a week. Out in the bush now they are advertising for old farm equipment and will even buy old fridges and old roofing tin etc,it is getting that bad

I bought a Falcon wagon a few months back for a few small parts. The wagon had a blown diff but I needed the housing as I have an LS sedan diff which I want to put into my wagon. It cost me 2cases of beer & a six pack of black russian cans for the car & $ Edited by user Friday, 17 August 2007 8:38:05 PM(UTC)

I work next door to a scrap recycler, and I get to see the cars that go to the shredder daily. If they have the wheels missing, they are not going anywhere but the shredder. They must remove the tyres before doing it. I have seen VR's that need a front co |

the main up shot of all of this is that where a car sat in a paddock and the locals could pick at it over say 10 years with guys permission,.... is now making up part of a new hyundai via scrap. The locals now have to deal with EBAY and the likes.
