Well a mate of mine who is to clever for him self but very handy to hang around with as Im always learning, He was telling me one day as I was arguing with him about a 10bolt sailsbury diff that they are fine. He had built a high horse power 327 chev talking something about the size of the rods or something and how the clearance once hot was this or that.. Opps wasnt listening to well..Any way he said that the Saisbury diff is fine if you get the wheels spinning straight away.
Most people slowly increase power and this causes stress on the diff.
He said if you just straight out floor it it will break traction and be less stress.
He also said if you do this same thing with a 253 or a 308 you will be more likly to break the diff as they in ordinary trim wont break traction fast enough and cause the diff to much stress compared with the chev. I have yet to find out as I have a 350 chev and a 10 bolt lol. But there is a 9 inch in the garage the boy owns so will see how it goes once I get the rest of my car finished.
To finish HQ Wire engine Attach rod in centre of carb for air cleaner Fix rust opps Mount console to floor its just sitting there Get a choke butterfly etc for my 600 holley New front seatbelts as I need the stalks as I changed from bench to buckets Somehow hook up an inhibitor switch from factory shifter to wiring in the dash? Make a fan Shroud as rarespares are like 220bucks for fiberglass one. Do burn out and blow diff and find out my mate was wrong lol
If its not broke it will be soon |

Holden fitted 10-bolts as standard to HQ 350s, but like a number of Holden drivetrains over the years the components are OK if not abused, but easy to break if given a hard time. Examples:
Aussie 4spds behind V8s; Banjos behind V8s (especially 307 HK |

Byrons pretty right , if you dont flog it, itll probably last for a long time. Although I would disagree with 2 bolts being stronger than a 9". As far as what your mate says about getting them spinning, if its an open centre, youll blow the stars gears

If you can find a good 10-bolt Salisbury use it, as it'll bolt straight in. The Borg Warner out of later Commodores will be stronger but needs mods to fit it. A good comprmise is ute/van/tonner 10-bolt axle tubes on a 9" centre with VN/VP axles and discs. |

I relise you will blow any diff with enough use. Both my mates say they have blown a 9inch diff they say it just takes a good chev to do it lol. But I guess what im saying is if you are going to do a burn out with a 10 bolt just floor it with a chev this
