308h identifaction with casting marks

i just bought a 308h motor for my hg...it cast build date is M140...can someone help decipher what year it is etc..the m doesnt computer with alphabet and months???..thanks heaps

my hg is 1/71 308 saginaw monaro would it have been in this model???? with time casting mark....

the reason it does not compute is early date codes are american style...month.date.year...later went to the australian system of date.month.year...james is right..just remember when date coding there is no i as it is confused with a 1... Edited by user Monday, 27 August 2007 5:15:23 AM(UTC)

Your car being "dated 1/71" means that your car had its engine fitted in 1/71, as the date is when the engine and chassis come together. Engines did not normally sit around for that long, (2 - 6 weeks depending on when in January your car was made) but it
