hi Qers
just looked at a rusty HZ ute with a 308 and 4 speed, intention to buy it as a doner car
what is involved in putting a clutch pedal and all the other "manual" bits from an HZ to my HQ ute ?
and just to be difficult, is it possible to run the four speed as a column shift ? i like my bench seat and don't want to cut a big hole in the floor for the shifter to come through
p.s. the doner ute started out at $2750 but we are down th $1500. the motor supposedly has receipts for $1600, but i am a little out of touch on prices, so would like to know hou much an engine/trans is worth
yes sonny, it's an HQ ute |

All the clutch parts will as long as they are standard V8 - late HZ had a cable clutch and the 6cyl pedal wont fit a HQ. If the HZ has a single hole for the clutch pedal to bolt in it will be OK. BUT, the early HZ 1/2 cable, 1/2 rat trap mechanism isnt al |

Yes, you can physically fit a 4 speed to a column shift, but you wont have a reverse gear, unfortunately. :-(
Shame, eh. My HQ is a column shift 3 speed, and I would have loved to swap to a 4 speed and keep the column, but it doesnt work.
Cheers,

The best way to get a 4spd column shift is to use a TH700R4 auto with a TH400 coulumn setup modified to fit.
And you can get a HQ-Wb bench seat 4spd shifter for the aussie M20-M22.

I think it could be done,( the 4 on the tree)if you used the Aussie 4 speed. They have the reverse selector in the extension housing, and in theory you could have the col shift do all 4 forward ratios, and a separate control for reverse. Perhaps push pull
