Background: 186, 4 speed Toyo box, hydraulic clutch using std firewall master.
Issue: Very high pitched squeal/whine.
When?: Cold - up to 5 minutes - intermittent.
Short term cure: A mere tap of the clutch pedal instantly stops it.
Eliminated (maybe?): No fluid loss, new master.
Thoughts: Thought it may be carb leak, but a slight touch (slight!) to the clutch pedal stops it. Warmed up (180+), not a sound! Zero fluid loss from the master.

Ideas?

Cheers, Paul.

Sounds like your thrust bearing a bit dry.

Thanks for the info. Is that a low oil issue or grease issue? Looking to re-pull the engine/box out to replace a gasket in any event. Cheers, Paul.

Thanks: 1 times
If the thrust bearing is adjusted to far in it will touch the fingers of the pressure plate causing it to spin all the time.

This will as with any bearing spining all the time wear it out over time.
Take the cover off the bottom of the gearbox if the
If its not broke it will be soon

Given you have an aftermarket belhousing, there is a chance you are not running your inspection cover??

If you are / aren't, whatever, but get some gear oil 80W /90 in an oil can and pump it onto the bearing to while turning it by hand.
Heat the oil +
