Hi i have a 600holley a th400 and a 350chev. I took the car for a spin round the block and found it wasnt kicking into top or maybe even second gear. Some guy said there should be a vacum line from the trans to the engine.
Would this vacum line missing cause me not to have any other gears?

I looked on my engine and the only place I can find a place to put a vacume line is on the bottom of the driver side of the carb.. There is another one the same higher up on the driver side of carb but has my vacum line from my Dizzy on it.

Would this be ok to hook the trans into?
Also do I use a rubber hose the whole way or try get some brake pipe or similar type pipe and use rubber on the ends only??
Cheers in advance.

The pipe on drivers side of car at base of carby is acceptable as place to put vacuum line. Alternatively, you can piggy back off the brake vacuum port on the manifold (or any other manifold vacuum pressure point).

This pipe is usually used to hook up

Sweet ill try piggy back it to the manifold brake pipe. Ill get my mate to weld an extra piece of pipe to the bit that sticks out so I can join it on.

Would this pipe missing from trans to motor cause me only to have 1 gear??

I don't know, as I have it connected, and all gears work. I am heading out today, so will try pulling it, and see what happens.

Keith,

I can confirm that without the vacuum hose the gearbox will not change gear. Reconnect vacuum hose and all is good.

Just get a fitting and hose off a 308 auto HJ-HZ or VB 308 auto with TH400 (TH350 one off VB/C or WB should also work). The manifold fitting you want is the one that the brake booster comes off. It has a little nipple on the top with a short piece of hose
