just had my trimatic serviced and for some reason it holds 1st gear for an excessively long time when cold. once its changed gears for the first time it works fine. but occasionaly when under load coming out of an intersection it slips slightly from 1st to 2nd. gear changes are smooth. the bands should have been adjusted, the mechanic said the oil and filter were suprisingly in good nick when he serviced it. the reason i took it in for a service in the first place was for the same problem it has now. as far as i'm concerned he's done nothing and charged me $140 and he reckons there's nothing wrong with it. the fact is it is slipping between 1st and second and i can even hear it slipping. does anyone know what could be causing this. every other gear change is perfect and smooth. cheers craig

Your auto probably needs attention by a good auto transmission guy. It may be a valve body problem or worn clutches. A normal 'service' will not fix these 2 faults.

Your auto probably needs attention by a good auto transmission guy. It may be a valve body problem or worn clutches. A normal service will not fix these 2 faults.

i told him exactly what was happening. saying he did nothing was probably not a good choice of words. the next morning i had a pool of oil sitting in my driveway about 1.5 meters in diameter. so he obviously did something. wouldnt he have found an oil lea Edited by user Friday, 28 September 2007 11:09:51 PM(UTC)

Oh yeah the no shift cold is most likely a sticky 1-2 shift valve ,possibly a small piece of Q.R. valve sometimes called a dump valve jamming it though this woul usually be a consistant prob hot or cold with a thump on downshift when stopping at lights. O

thanks for the advice. i think i might source a reco unit. does anyone know where to get on from prefably around adelaide area to keep shipping costs down. just makes it hard when there is no specialist here. with the oil leak i was using that as an examp
