hi guys
am charging a rather flat battery (yes, its all connected correctly!), I had it on the low charge overnight and this morning the casing was very hot, never noticed this before when charging batteries ... would it be that the cells are deader than dead??
cheers frank

From very low (or at a very fast charge) batteries will get hot (as well as give off heaps of hydrogen, so dont smoke or light a gas fire near it, unless you want a really quick and effective redecoration job).

WHen i was in the N.T, we used to recharge electric crown fork lifts with 3 phase power, overnight.
they got very, very hot and the batteries needed 20Lt water / day.

thanks guys, I always loosen the caps before charging to avoid gas build up and possible expolsion! It took a few hours for the baterry casing to cool down and when I did a hydrometer test, every cell was as flat as when it first went on charge. dead as t
