Hey guys i have just got a 3.55 lsd salisbury and i was wanting to know can i just change the crown wheel and pinion gear to a different ratio ie a 3.08 or 3.36 Thanks Blade

Yes, but only to 3.08, 3.36 or 4.44. 2.6 and 2.78 use a different hemisphere.

but how hard is it to do this....well within the means of the average home mechanic......I mean the LSD to LSD change......done the standard banjo.....?

cheers guys i wil be putting the crown wheel on myself but will get a mech to put it all back in just in case, another small question do i need to change the pinion gear as well or can i just change the crown wheel? Blade

You need to change them both, as a matched pair. Will need new collapsable spacer, new bearings, new seal etc. Costs a few hunder just in parts, and then it still may be noisy without lapping the gears.

Hi Byron, Just reading this thread and noted you stated "Yes, but only to 3.08, 3.36 or 4.44. 2.6 and 2.78 use a different hemisphere" I recently brought a Magnum disc brake LSD diff (2.6) and intended to fit 4.44 gear set, using the 2.6's hemisphere...

See if you can find a flogged out 3.08:1 or up LSD and buy a minispool for it. They are only about $120.

Sometimes when gears have been in a particular diff they wear together. If you move then to a new housing they can be noisy. I had this happen to me with an LX Torana banjo. There was a company that used to (Im pretty sure the term was lap) do something t |

Which model? I know its actually possible to build one using parts from other ratios but Ive never heard of a 3.9:1 Salisbury. Ive been wrong plenty of times before.....

Are the axel splines the same in 2.6, 2.76 as in 3.08,3.36 and 4.44?

Yes. Also the same as 28 spline 9" and VN on Borg Warner plus others.
