I've got a vn 5L calais that i'm planning to put a mini-spool in. I also want to do ratio change.. I've got a vl sedan complete diff assembly, will it fit under the vn? what are the differences in housings from vl to vn? I'm considering using the vl diff to save me from pulling pinion gears etc out of vn housing to change ratio, I'm spooling it anyway, will the spool go into a normal vl single spinner carrier?
Thanks for any replies..

the vl diff is narrower by about 20mm on each side. make sure you get the right mini spool. the vn diffs are 28 spline, the vl diffs are only 25 spline (except for v8 or turbo diffs)

The other advantage of this is that with the right offset on your rims, you can fit significantly wider wheels all round - equal at all 4 corners, just like Holden did with the VN Group A & VN SV5000 which both ran VL width housings & 8" rims
