looking around and have seen LS2 and L76 crate engines for what seems like good value. how easy is it to fit one in a HZ statesman ie engine mounts etc, does T400 bolt on or do we need T700, does anyone make a wiring harness for engine management system ??. at the moment this seems a better deal than rebuilding the red 308. what are the differences between LS2 and L76 and why are there so many different Kilowatt ratings on them, why is the 5.7L now 6L. thanks in advance

LS1 = 5.7 (1998 - early 2006) L76 = low key 6.0 in non performance v8s (such as statemans).
LS2 = high performance v8 sold in SS and HSVs. The LS2 has been used since the end of the LS1. The L98 (the latest low key 6.0 for the VE range) is also said to

Theyll bolt straight to a TH400 AFAIK. You can also buy a carby inlet manifold as well (have a look on Suburban Imports site). The biggest problem youll have is meeting HZ pollution requirements, so its easier to use the full EFI setup and comply with lat

thanks all for your input
I have seen 6 litre L76 for $4500 and 6 litre LS2 for $5000 to $5500 for 260 to 297 Kw.at those prices it seems like a good proposition rather than freshening the red 308 though there is extra cost in wiring harness/computer/sum

Yes. A VN-VP is easiest, but the best one will be a stroked late model one eg VT GTS. There are heaps of these conversions done. Almost a bolt in job.

TH350, TH400 (3L80), TH700 (4L60), 4L60E, 4L65E, 4L80E, Chev Powerglide etc etc all have the same bolt pattern. The TH700 and TH400 even share the same flex plate on a 308.
