im gonna be buying an HQ ute and i need to find the Chassis and engine numbers, i thought the chassis number was near the steering box on the driver side chassis rail, maybe it was just covered in grease and i couldnt see it in the poor light.
same deal with the engine number (253), i thought it was on the front of the right (passenger side) bank under the head.
any help much appreciated

You are right about where to look . A thick coat of paint will even make it difficult to read the numbers. I would suggest sandpaper and some chalk to read the numbers .
